Learn About Vascular Conditions

The Vascular system is divided into the Arterial vessels (supply side) and Venous vessels (return side) with the lymphatic system playing a role as well. Arteries and veins each have diseases and symptoms specific to those vessels. For instance, atherosclerotic plaque builds up inside arteries but not veins! This can be quite confusing for people but we hope to make it simpler!
This illustration shows what a normal artery looks like.

The above illustrations show the different stages of a serious arterial condition known as Atherosclerosis. This is just one of the many arterial conditions Dr. Tahara treats at Allegheny Vein & Vascular.  Click on the images above to see larger illustrations.

This illustration shows the difference between blood flow in a normal vein as opposed to a varicose vein, where blood flow is hindered.

The above illustration (click to enlarge) shows a normal vein and a varicose vein.  Notice the difference in blood flow.  In a normal vein, blood flow will be in one direction and smooth, whereas in varicose veins the blood flow is inconsistent and flows in two directions. Dr. Tahara treats varicose veins using minimally-invasive methods.
